Relative impact of insulin resistance and obesity on cardiovascular risk factors in polycystic ovary syndrome.
Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) affects 5% to 7% of women of reproductive age. Insulin resistance and obesity are components of this important syndrome that may contribute to excess cardiovascular risk. We analyzed data from 69 patients with PCOS who had undergone quantitative assessment of insulin sensitivity, blood pressure, lipid profiles, and androgen levels to determine the impact of insu...
متن کامل[Central obesity index and cardiovascular risk factors in polycystic ovary syndrome].
BACKGROUND Women with polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) present a high prevalence of abdominal obesity, which is associated with an increased cardiovascular risk. OBJECTIVE To verify the accuracy of the waist circumference (WC), waist-to-hip ratio (WHR), waist-to-height ratio (WHtR) and the conicity index (CI) in the detection of cardiovascular risk factors (CVRF) in women with PCOS. METHODS...
متن کاملCardiovascular Risk Factors in Bulgarian Patients with Polycystic Ovary Syndrome and/or Obesity
Polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS) is one of the most common endocrine disturbances in women of reproductive age. Besides its well-known effects on reproductive health, it is also linked to increased cardiovascular risk in later life. The aim of this study is to investigate some classical cardiovascular risk factors in a crossectional study of Bulgarian women with PCOS and/or obesity. We perfor...

INTRODUCTION Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) is associated with obesity and insulin resistance. The objective of this cross-sectional study was to investigate the impact of insulin resistance and body mass index (BMI) on inflammatory and hemostatic variables associated with long-term risk of cardiovascular disease in women with PCOS. MATERIAL AND METHODS 149 premenopausal women with PCOS wer...
متن کاملCardiovascular risk and subclinical cardiovascular disease in polycystic ovary syndrome.
In addition to its effects on reproductive health, it is now well recognized that polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) is a metabolic disorder, characterized by decreased insulin sensitivity which leads to an excess lifetime risk of type 2 diabetes and cardiovascular disease. PCOS patients are often obese, hypertensive, dyslipidemic and insulin resistant; they have obstructive sleep apnea and have ...
